In a move to raise professional standards across the Pacific, the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) has delivered a tailored property management training program in Papua New Guinea.
Teaming up with the Real Estate Industry Association of Papua New Guinea (REIA-PNG), the REIQ hosted a two-day intensive property management course, followed by a one-day workshop specifically designed for agency owners and business leaders.
Led by REIQ fellow and Bundaberg-based agent Le-Anne Allan, the sessions were customised to address the real-world needs of property professionals working in PNG — a market that currently operates without formal sales or property management legislation.
“We’ve adapted the best of Queensland’s systems to suit the PNG landscape,” said Allan.
“From property managers and valuers to maintenance contractors and business owners — there was a real hunger in the room to operate with more structure and accountability.”
REIQ CEO Antonia Mercorella said the initiative builds on a long-standing relationship between the two organisations.
“The REIQ is proud to support REIA-PNG in their mission to elevate industry standards,” Mercorella said. “There’s a clear appetite for best practice, and that’s what we’re here to help deliver.”
REIA-PNG president Mike Quinn called the training a crucial step in professionalising the sector.
“This collaboration is creating genuine opportunities for professional development,” Quinn said. “It’s a game-changer for many in our industry.”
With plans already underway for another training session in 2026, both institutes are committed to long-term growth and capability-building across the PNG property sector.
